Resources for English tutorials
This term we will be improving our reading and writing skills. We will study the book 'Pax' written by Sara Pennypacker and look at the themes, plot, authors intent and the correct way to embed quotes into our writing. We will then be watching a film, and learning how to compare and contrast the two texts.
Below you will find the tutorials for this unit. You may want to use these resources to help with your CATs and to revise before your post assessment at the end of the unit.
Tutorial 1: Introduction
This tutorials is an introduction to term 2 English. We will be looking at the novel 'Pax'.
Tutorial 2: Reading "Pax"
In this tutorial we will begin reading 'Pax' by Sara Pennypacker. Your teacher will be reading the story aloud and you will be required to listen and read along on your iPad.

In this tutorial we will continue reading 'Pax. You will write another chapter summary in your books.

In this tutorial we will continue reading 'Pax'. You will write another chapter summary in your books.
Tutorial 5: The CAT
In this tutorial you will be introduced to the second English CAT.
Tutorials 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14: Reading "Pax" and working on CAT
Over these tutorials we will continue to read 'Pax' and you will be working on your CAT.
Tutorial 15: The Plot
In this tutorial you will learn what a plot is in relation to the story 'Pax'.
Tutorial 16: Themes
In this tutorial you will learn what a theme is.
Tutorial 17: The Author's Purpose
In this tutorial you will learn the importance of knowing the author’s purpose and identify the messages and ideas Sara Pennypacker wanted to portray through her story. You will demonstrate this in a TEEL paragraph.
Tutorial 18: The Characters
In this tutorial you will learn about the characters and protagonist in the novel 'Pax'.

Tutorial 19, 20: Watching a Film
Now that we have studied the novel 'Pax', we are going to watch the film 'Red Dog'. We will be using these two texts to compare and contrast the similarities and differences between the two.
Tutorial 21: Analysing a film
In this tutorial we will begin analysing the film 'Red Dog' while developing an understanding of what a synopsis is and how to write one.
Tutorial 22: Themes
To identify a range of themes found in the film ‘Red Dog’.
Tutorial 23: Comparing and Contrasting
In this tutorial we will begin comparing and contrasting the characters and more in relation to the novel 'Pax' and the film 'Red Dog'.
Tutorial 24: Super TEEL
In this presentation we will learn how to write an extended SUPER TEEL paragraph! This will allow you to compare and contrast things in one paragraph.
Tutorial 25: The CAT
In this tutorial we will look at what the CAT will look like.
Tutorial 11: Proofreading and Editing
After the CAT, it's important to proofread and edit your work. This lesson will be around understanding what proofreading it and effectively editing your work for improvement. You will also have a look at the rubric and self assess.
Tutorial 12: Grammatical Person
In this tutorial we will learn how to use the correct grammatical person when writing.
